Activated Sludge

A process that uses bacteria to break down organic matter in wastewater.

Aeration

The process of increasing oxygen saturation in water to remove gases, improving water quality.

Backflow

Flow of contamination or pollution into the drinking water distribution pipeline.

Biosolids

The solid material that is removed from wastewater during treatment.

Black Water

Black water is wastewater that is heavily contaminated and often contains human waste, toilet paper, and other organic matter. It is typically dark in color and has a strong, unpleasant odor.

Byproducts

Substances formed as a result of water treatment processes.

Chlorination

The process of adding chlorine to water to kill harmful bacteria and viruses.

Clarifier

A tank where suspended solids in wastewater settle to the bottom.

Clean Water

Clean, potable, rainwater, or safe drinking water. This water is free from harmful contaminants.

Consumer Confidence Report (CCR)

CCR is another name for a water quality report. It's a document that's required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is sent to all water customers. The CCR provides information about the quality of your drinking water, including any detected contaminants and how they compare to federal and state drinking water standards.

Contaminant

Any substance that makes water unsuitable for drinking, cooking, or other uses.

Curb Stop (Service Valve)

A valve located at the property line that controls the water flow to your home and run from Authority's water main.
