Desalination

The process of removing salt from seawater to make it potable.

Disenfection

The process of killing or inactivating microorganisms in water.

Drinking Water

Drinking water, also known as potable water, is water intended for public consumption. It undergoes a treatment process, typically involving the extraction of raw water from sources like lakes or rivers, followed by filtration and chemical treatment to meet safety standards. This treated water is then distributed through a network of pipes to consumers.

Effluent

The treated wastewater from factories discharged into a receiving stream or body of water.

Exposure Limits

The maximum amount of a chemical that a person can be exposed to without adverse health effects.

FOG - Fat, Oils, and Grease

FOG is a combination of fats, oils, and grease that can clog sewer pipes and cause backups. It comes from various sources, including restaurants, homes, and industries. When FOG is dumped down the drain, it can solidify and create blockages, leading to overflows and other problems.

Filtration

The process of removing impurities from water by passing it through a porous material.

Flow Reduction

Flow reduction is the process of removing excess water from a sewer network or collection system.

Fluoridation

The process of adding fluoride to water to help prevent tooth decay.

Gray Water

Used water from sinks, showers, and laundry machines that can be reused for non-potable purposes.

Groundwater

Water held underground in the soil or in pores and crevices in rock is defined as groundwater.

Hardness (in water)

The measure of the concentration of calcium and magnesium ions in water.
