Update February 24 at 1:04 PM: SGWASA crews completed an extensive jetting and cleaning of a sewer line littered with holiday garbage. The crew utilized the jetting system multiple times to ensure clearance of the line and conducted a thorough inspection of all downstream manholes, confirming no further issues.
In a proactive effort to ensure the long-term integrity of the system, utility teams scheduled additional work with a specialized sewer CCTV and cleaning company. This location was previously slated for maintenance by June, the Authority is expediting the services due to the current situation.
SGWASA is committed to maintaining the efficiency and reliability of our system and appreciate the continued cooperation of our community.
______
Butner, NC – The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority received a report regarding a sewer backup at the 300 block of Watson Street in Creedmoor, NC. The customer indicated that the backup began over three weeks prior to the service request being submitted, which was received on February 20, 2025.
Upon investigation, SGWASA's utility crew conducted a jetting of the cleanout and the main sewer line. During this process, the crew discovered a blockage caused by a collection of Mardi Gras beads and other debris. These materials appeared to have obstructed the flow in the sewer main, resulting in the backup.
A SGWASA Superintendent filed a report with the Creedmoor Police Department to assist with further investigation.
SGWASA is committed to maintaining the functionality of its utility services and ensuring that all customers receive reliable service. We encourage residents to be cautious about the materials they dispose of through the sewer system and to report any issues promptly to help prevent service disruptions.
