June 21, 2024 (Butner) - The Southern Granville Water and Sewer Authority (SGWASA) is committed to providing safe and reliable water and wastewater services to our customers. To maintain this commitment and ensure long-term system sustainability,SGWASA will implement a rate adjustment effective July 1, 2024.
As a self-sustaining enterprise fund, SGWASA operates within a balanced budget, with revenue from customer fees covering operational costs. These costs include materials, supplies, infrastructure maintenance, debt service, and staffing. Like utilities nationwide, SGWASA has experienced rising costs due to inflation and infrastructure needs.
Responsible Management
SGWASA has previously absorbed these cost increases through various measures, including utilizing available funds from vacant positions. However, to maintain current service levels and invest in future system needs, a rate adjustment is necessary.
The proposed rate adjustments will impact both base rates and volume rates for all customer classes. A detailed breakdown of the new rates are available on the SGWASA website sgwasa.org/budget effective July 1, 2024.
The FY24-25 budget includes funding for two new entry-level operator positions at our water and wastewater treatment facilities. These positions will help address staffing needs identified by current system enhancement projects and SGWASA leadership in recent years.
SGWASA remains committed to providing exceptional service while maintaining fiscal responsibility. We anticipate future residential and commercial growth within the I-85 Sanitary Sewer System Improvement Project area, which will contribute to long-term financial sustainability.
