Waste Disposal and Plumbing Maintenance

Updated: 1 day ago

Butner, NC. February 24, 2025 — The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority recently responded to a report involving a sewer backup in Creedmoor, NC. While this issue was resolved, it serves as a timely reminder of the importance of responsible waste disposal and the partnered role we all play in preserving the functionality of Granville County's water and sewer system.

Items such as plastics, beads, wipes, grease, and similar materials which cannot break down in the system, often result in blockages that strain the infrastructure and lead to sewer backups.

In addition to responsible waste disposal, homeowners should remain vigilant in ensuring that their private plumbing systems, including backflow preventers, cleanouts, and sewer connections, are properly maintained. Regular inspections and professional evaluations are key to avoiding potential backups and ensuring the long-term functionality of a home’s plumbing. As a courtesy, SGWASA may offer gentle guidance on some plumbing and recycling topic, but the responsibility for waste management and home plumbing lies with individual homeowners.

Residents who suspect issues with their service are encouraged to contact SGWASA to report concerns promptly. Visit sgwasa.org/emergency for reporting information. Timely reporting helps us to mitigate larger problems and respond to concerns efficiently.
