Update 8:28 PM: Crews completed repairs for the water main break reported on C Street and have restored service for residents from 21st to 23rd Street in Butner, NC.

What to expect following periods of low or no water pressure:

In times of low water pressure and outages, discolored water and/or air pockets can form. In the event of a water main outage or low pressure event, the Authority encourages you to do the take the following steps:

  1. Once the low-pressure event or water main break has been addressed, please wait to turn on your faucets. You will receive a notification from SGWASA via email or website update if you are subscribed to our alerts. If you are not currently signed up, we encourage you to visit sgwasa.org/alerts to register for updates.

  2. In the event that you experience discolored water or air in your line, go to a spigot that can discharge the most amount of water and open it. Outdoor spigots or bath tubs are good places for this.  Run the water for at least one minute, please note that popping sounds from air can occur.  Water clarity should improve as time passes and water is transported through the water mains.

  3. You may observe a significant number of small bubbles in your water. This is a standard consequence of repairs and will subside as you allow the water to run for a short period.

Fire hydrants may be observed running during these events. This is a standard procedure implemented to flush the system and minimize potential water quality and air concerns.

If you encounter discolored water or air in your supply during normal operating conditions without prior notification of water main repairs or low-pressure events, we kindly request that you visit our website to submit a water quality questionnaire.

This information is invaluable to SGWASA staff as it assists us in tracking potential water quality issues and enables us to promptly contact you regarding available solutions to address your concerns.

Reporting water quality concerns ensures prompt service and necessary repairs.
