Update 2/24: The crew spent hours cleaning the sewer line from Watson Street and well beyond where the blockage originated (as of 02/21/25). They ran the Jet machine up and down the line multiple times to clear the issue and even inspected all downstream manholes to ensure there were no further problems.
As a proactive measure, the Authority scheduled Vision (sewer CCTV & cleaning company) to re-camera and clean the affected area—and special off-road equipment will help clean the outfall in the woods. This area was previously on the schedule for maintenance, but is being expedited due to the circumstances.
______
The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority received a report regarding a sewer backup at the 300 block of Watson Street in Creedmoor, NC. The service request, received on February 20, 2025, reported an issue that had been ongoing for approximately three weeks.
Upon investigation, SGWASA's utility crew conducted a jetting of the cleanout and the main sewer line. During this process, the crew discovered a blockage caused by a collection of Mardi Gras beads and other debris. These materials appeared to have obstructed the flow in the sewer main, resulting in the backup.

System Wide
March 1, 2025
In Progress
Annually, the South Granville Water and Sewer Authority (SGWASA) performs a variety of system-wide maintenance activities on the water distribution system to ensure compliance with state and federal water quality standards.
One of the proactive maintenance activities that is scheduled for this Spring includes changing the water disinfection process for a period, thus reducing the amount of ammonia in the drinking water, while keeping the chlorine at the same level. This practice is commonly known as a “Chlorine Burn Out”. This process ensures a high level of disinfection throughout the entire distribution system.
